March 29, 2010

The Marlborough Wine Festival is New Zealand’s longest running and most successful wine festival. Take the opportunity to sample a unique selection of Marlborough wines along with some delicious local produce and gourmet cuisine.

The festival offers something for everyone including wine tutorials with the regions’ leading wine makers and viticulturists, Thomas’s Fashion in the Vines competition, food and wine matching and fantastic entertainment from some of New Zealand’s leading performers.

The festival is the second Saturday in February. Destination Marlborough is an excellent resource to help plan your trip.

Here is a video showing guests enjoying wine from Wairau River Wines.

Introducing Lady Parker – A New Zealand Wine Reviewer

March 19, 2010

I am young woman in wine, reviewing and vlogging the best of what New Zealand wine has to offer – it’s personalities, it’s stories, and most importantly the uniqueness inside each and every bottle.

Sharing no known lineage with Robert Parker (the USA’s Wine Advocate), though a common background – I’m passionate about learning, tasting and enjoying what the world of wine has to offer.

I’m pursuing my passion… It’s been a lifelong one – growing up as a wine makers only daughter, with five brothers – my day-to-day life has hardly been prosaic. I grew up in a family of wine and entrepreneurship.

Now having finished my Law Degree at Otago University, I have chosen to honour my fervour for Wine and am on a journey of discovery – endeavouring to navigate the unchartered world of wine & ultimately seeking to achieve my MW perpetually learning, reviewing (and enjoying!) wine.

Happy Birthday to Nautilus Estate of Marlborough New Zealand

March 16, 2010

“It was twenty years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play. They’ve been going in and out of style But they’re guaranteed to raise a smile. So may I introduce to you……….”

New Zealand wines have a short history and only a few have 25 years of experience, Nautilus Estate in Marlborough is one who recently celebrated their 25th birthday.

I like people and wineries who have confidence in what they do – Nautilus Estate  displayed this recently at a Twitter #SauvBlanc tasting and opened a 2002 Sauvignon Blanc – while a Twitter tasting does not let participants share what is in everyone’s glass – I give them the benefit of the doubt and believe their 2002 was still a respectable glass of wine. This is special when so many wines today do not excite enough to have a second glass.

Happy Birthday to everyone at Nautilus Estate.

New Zealand Olive Oil From Moon over Martinborough

March 9, 2010

The diversity of New Zealand foods continues to expand everyday. If you want to branch out and try something else to go with your New Zealand wine or lamb — reach out and pick up a bottle of olive oil from Moon Over Martinborough. Now you may have to visit The Martinborough Wine Center— that will just be part of the joy — as you will leave not only with the olive you came in for but also some stunning bottles of Martinborough wine.

The Moon over Martinborough blog tells the story of an expat American city boy named Jared who settles down on 20 acres and an olive grove in New Zealand. Together Jared and his partner get the olive grove up and running without any prior knowledge. The website has been winning accolades, including:

  • Named ‘Website of the Month’ by New Zealand’s NetGuide Magazine
  • Syndicated in Wairarapa Lifestyle Magazine
  • Finalist in the ‘ONYA’ awards.

This video will give you more insight into Moon over Martinborough — including the chickens.
